Duct Testing, Sealing |
What is a duct leakage test?
Leakage tests can be performed on a duct system to estimate the amount of conditioned air that would leak out of the duct system during normal operation. With all intentional openings in the duct system sealed a calibrated fan is used to pressurize the duct system. The airflow through the calibrated fan required to maintain the prescribed test pressure is defined as the measured duct leakage. (VIEW MORE INFO) |
Duct leakage is typically expressed as a percentage of the normal system airflow. For example, if the measured duct leakage is 100cfm and the system airflow under normal operation is 1000cfm, then the duct leakage is 10%. The Efficiency Standards require that all new duct systems demonstrate leakage = 5% while a well installed duct system will have much lower leakage.
