Working from outside the United States

Working from outside the United States?

We have blocked most internet traffic from outside the US. As such, you may have difficulty connecting to the CalCERTS registry. You have 2 options:

  1. VPN

If you will be working with the registry on a somewhat regular basis, this is the best option.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It provides a secure way of connecting over the internet to a remote location.

There are several major providers that can easily be found through an online search. Some popular options – listed in no particular order - include:

https://www.safervpn.com/
https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/
https://privatevpn.com/
https://nordvpn.com/

  1. Whitelist IP

A second option is to provide CalCERTS with the IP address of your computer. At that point, CalCERTS will mark the address as trusted and you will have access.

The downside to this approach is that it must be done for every device, each time the IP changes. Depending on your Internet Service provider, your IP address may change regularly.

To get your IP address, simply enter the phrase ‘what is my IP’ in Google or Bing.
