Refrigerant Charge Verifications (RCV)

When can the weigh-in method be used by the Installer or by the Rater?

For verification of refrigerant charge, the Installer is allowed to use the weigh-in method at any time. However, the HERS Rater may only use observation of the Installer's weigh-in for verification of system types that cannot use the standard charge measurement procedure (superheat / sub-cooling) or when outside air temperatures do not allow use of the standard charge measurement procedure (outside air temperature <55°F).

Note: regardless of whether the weigh-in or standard charge measurement procedure is used to verify charge, minimum airflow requirements must also be verified for ducted A/C systems.
